Canvassers

The Westerly Board of Canvassers operates in accordance with Title 17 of the Rhode Island General Laws and the Westerly Town Charter. The Town Clerk's Office, with assistance from the Board of Canvassers, is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of all Town voting records and the administration of all national, state and local elections, as well as any Special Election.

🖨 You may also print a Voter Registration form to complete and then mail or deposit in the 24/7 Town Hall drop-box located along the driveway to the left side of Town Hall.

New Laws:

🗳  17-year-olds now have the right to vote in party primaries if they have registered to vote and will be 18 years old by Election Day according to RI General Law §17-1-3.

🗳  Unaffiliated Voters - Per RI General Law §17-9.1-23, effective June 1, 2024, "non-affiliated", "unaffiliated" or "disaffiliated" voters who vote in party primaries will remain unaffiliated. 


MAIL BALLOTS 

 📬 All registered voters who request a mail ballot receive a physical, printed ballot, regardless of whether they request the ballot via paper form or through the online portal. 

Permanent Mail Ballot Application - for those registered voters who are "...indefinitely confined because of physical illness or infirmity or because they are disabled for an indefinite period."  A mail ballot application will be sent automatically based on the completion and certification of the received form. Please contact the Board of Canvassers office with any questions.

Track Your Mail Ballot - Voters are encouraged to sign up for BallotTrax at https://ballottrax.sos.ri.gov/voter/ to track your mail ballot from application to certification at the RI Board of Elections.


WAYS TO VOTE 

✔ VOTE BY MAIL - Apply for a Mail Ballot to Vote from Home 

Voting from home is a safe and easy option for those voters who do not wish to vote in-person. Registered Voters who complete their mail ballot application and return it by the deadline will have a mail ballot sent to them. Return your voted ballot by mail using the materials provided or deposit in the 24/7 Official Mail Ballot Drop Box located along the driveway to the left side of Town Hall. Your ballot must be received by 8:00 pm on Election day. 

 ✔ VOTE EARLY IN-PERSON AT TOWN HALL prior to Election Day

Begins on the 20th day preceding Election day. VOTE at the Town Hall polling site during regular business hours from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Early in-person voting ends at 4:00 pm the day before election day. Please bring a valid form of ID.

✔ VOTE AT YOUR POLLING LOCATION ON ELECTION DAY  

VOTE at your polling location on Election day from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Please contact this office or vote.sos.ri.gov to confirm your polling location, voter registration information, and election day information. Please bring a valid form of ID
